2013 Important Update!!
The Louisiana Department of Education electronic notification.
As of the 2013 school year the Louisiana Department of Education has emplimented an option for online notification for Homeschool and Homestudy options. From the DOE website...
"Families and schools may now use a simple, user-friendly online registration system to submit their nonpublic school registration. This new system will allow a registered nonpublic school to complete their registration online instead of submitting a registration letter.
Once the registered nonpublic completes the online form, they will receive an automatic registration confirmation via e-mail. A similar system will also be available for families wishing to submit a Home Study Application."
The direct links to the online notification are as follows...
Homebased Private School Option -
Home based private schools which receive no local, state, or federal funds must report to the state Department of Education their total attendance as of the thirtieth day of their school term.
La. Rev. Stat.Ann. §17:232(C).
Parents must apply to the Board of Education for approval of the home study program within fifteen days after commencement of the program.
La. Rev. Stat. Ann. §17:236.1(A).

Roadmap to Understanding Common Core
Common Core is:
-
Based on a "one size fits all" teaching style.
-
a Grand Theft of Education.
-
Only 1 out of 65 that designed CC was a class room teacher.
-
Centered on Civics and Government.
-
There is no curriculum. The teacher has to make up his/her own.
-
Progressive Education; helps students develop knowledge, attitudes, values, and behaviors. (Theirs, not yours.)
-
Teaches that children should learn to fail early and often.
-
GED, ITBS, ACT, SAT, etc; tests will be aligned with Common Core.
There is a web-site that really lays out the "Roadmap to Common Core". We highly suggest you go to this site and study it. It is laid out as a "road-map". Move your mouse across the 'map' and click on different points and that point will enlarge and give information and further links as a red flag. The enlarge/decrease button is hidden on the right side in the middle. Move your mouse there and it will appear.

Read what the Constitution of the state of La. says about the family, and the role of the parents in raising and educating
their children:
Louisiana Children's Code - Article 101 of Preamble to La. Constitution
Art. 101. Preamble
The people of Louisiana recognize the family as the most fundamental unit of human society; that preserving families is essential to a free society; that the relationship between parent and child is preeminent in establishing and maintaining the well-being of the child; that parents have the responsibility for providing the basic necessities of life as well as love and affection to their children; that parents have the paramount right to raise their children in accordance with their own values and traditions; that parents should make the decisions regarding where and with whom the child shall reside, the educational, moral, ethical, and religious training of the child, the medical, psychiatric, surgical, and preventive health care of the child, and the discipline of the child; that children owe to their parents respect, obedience, and affection; that the role of the state in the family is limited and should only be asserted when there is a serious threat to the family, the parents, or the child; and that extraordinary procedures established by law are meant to be used only when required by necessity and then with due respect for the rights of the parents, the children, and the institution of the family.
Acts 1991, No. 235, §1, eff. Jan. 1, 1992.

[Important Note: State Graduation requirements are not necessarily the best guideline for homeschoolers to use. They have been included here as a guideline for what a typical public school student would need to complete in order to graduate. A more important guideline may be the College Entrance requirements for where your student would like to attend college. While colleges have differing requirements, there are many colleges that publish requirements for homeschool graduates.]
